I like to poke around my local Korean market to see what new treats I can find - skincare included.  The front of the market has a small K-Beauty shop that has a nice little selection of hair, skincare, and makeup.  They sell the Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Masks individually (at $2.50 each); so I decided to give one a try!

INGREDIENTS

• Snail Secretion Filtrate Ferment Filtrate - aka Saccharomyces.  This nutrient-rich mucin is best known for its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.  Also said to be effective in healing blemishes. 
• Niacinamide - aka Vitamin B3.  Provides a wide range of benefits including the increase of moisture retention and elasticity, brightening, excess sebum control, and improved appearance of enlarged pores.
• Sodium Hyaluronate - aka Hyaluronic Acid.  A very effective humectant that boosts the skin's moisture content, prevents dehydration, and preserves skin moisture. 
• Plantago Asiatica Extract - An antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that is also said to have a whitening effect on the skin.  
• Laminaria Japonica Extract - A humectant that increases skin hydration.
• Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract - aka Persimmon Extract.  This antioxidant potentially has skin whitening properties as well as help with sebum reduction.
• Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract - This ancient ingredient has been touted throughout history for it's medicinal qualities.  Where skincare is concerned, it is an antioxidant with skin soothing effects.
• Althaea Rosea Root Extract - aka Mallow.  Helps soothe the skin and improve texture.
• Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract - Derived from the aloe vera plant, this antioxidant helps soothe the skin. 
• Betaine - A balancing agent that helps hydrate the skin.
• Allantoin - Conditions and soothes the skin.  
• Adenosine - Derived from yeast, this ingredient helps reduce wrinkles by increasing skin smoothness.
• Bee Venom (Apitoxin) - Studies show that this ingredient effectively reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Just a simple cotton mask.  Unfold carefully!

Unlike the Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Sheet Mask, the Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Mask does not come with a protective mesh to prevent the mask from tearing when unfolding.  Which admittedly might be a good thing because I saw some people upset at Sulwhasoo saying the mask was stiff and wouldn't smooth out on their face; only for them to post pictures of themselves wearing the mesh part lol.  The cotton for the Benton mask was thick, but as I was unraveling it I became very close to ripping it.  

Usually sheet masks have excess product within the pouch that I would rub all over my arms and neck, but that wasn't the case with the Benton Sheet Masks.  It seemed as if all of the solution was just within the mask, and quite viscous.  I ended up having to press the PH strip against the mask itself to get a proper sample (the PH was around 6.5, by the way).

The instructions say to apply the mask to clean skin and wear for 15 to 20 minutes.  I put it on after taking a shower so I could relax a bit and do some reading.  The thing about the Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Mask is that it didn't seem to fit properly.  It almost felt too big on my face and ended up having a lot of little folds.  It never came loose though and I was still able to drink some water while wearing it.

After removing the mask, I tried to massage whatever small amount of remaining essence into my skin but it just didn't want to absorb.  The solution was quite sticky and I didn't like how it felt on my face.  I ended up splashing a bit of water because the stickiness was making me a little crazy.  My skin does feel softer, but not very hydrated.  If anything, my skin felt a little drier.  The sebum production was definitely put in check though, and even as I'm writing this my combination / oily skin is still at bay.  

FINAL THOUGHTS

I'm on the fence about my experience using the Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Mask.  I do like how it certainly curbed my skin's oiliness, but at the same time I was expecting a good amount of hydration and plumping action going on - which didn't happen.  What is odd though is that the Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Hydrogel Eye Patches do seem to smooth out the fine lines under my eyes, but this one didn't despite both products having similar ingredients.  Perhaps it is due to the delivery method (hydrogel vs cotton)?

I did look at other reviews for this product and they appear to be generally good, but can be hit or miss.  To me, it's just okay.  I think I would only use this in the summer, but might reach for something more refreshing in the winter (I'm looking at you, Sulwhasoo ❤).

I don't apply mascara to the lower lashes.

There wasn't much of a learning curve applying this mascara with the long applicator.  It came on thick and smooth, and I was even able to go in and apply another coat without it clumping.  I was pretty impressed.  It also didn't cause any irritation or make me teary eyed at all.  Please note that I do not apply mascara to my lower lashes because I tend to rub my eyes due to extended computer use (and I also prefer the look).

I really did put this mascara through the ringer though.  It was a very VERY hot and humid day when I tested it.  The heat index was about 112°F (44.4°C) with 70% humidity, and I was out alllll day (with ample sunscreen).  The day was horrid; so if the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara can make it through that, then it should make it through most climates I presume.  Even through all of this abuse, I'm happy to day it didn't flake or run at all throughout this brutally hot day.

The mascara also came off easily with oil cleanser and didn't leave me looking raccoon-eyed upon exiting the shower.  I really hate when mascara does that lol. 

FINAL THOUGHTS

I think I would repurchase the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara if it was on sale, but personally prefer the Clinique High Impact Mascara due to it's hydrating Hyaluronic Acid content.  I'm at the age where my skin and hair just needs a little more love.  With that said, this positive experience does open the door to trying other Estée Lauder products.

Another thing to consider is that there are other very good mascaras out there at lower price points; I do enjoy Clinique High Impact Mascara at $21.00 a pop, but there is also Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash where you get slightly more product for just a few dollars less ($27.00).

It's just a simple nose strip.  I don't know what else to say - we've seen them all before, but this one is black and smells kind of pleasant like black sesame.  

INGREDIENTS

The ingredients list for the LUKE Charcoal Nose Cleansing Strip is a bit long; not unlike the TONYMOLY Tako Pore One Shot Nose Pack which yielded mediocre results (full review here).  It just needs to clear out my pores so I can wash my face after and do my regular skincare routine.  I'm not expecting much more than that, so perhaps simplicity is key.  

Charcoal Powder, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Vinyl Caprolactam/VP/Dimethylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Water, Silica, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Fragrance, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol

Notable Ingredients:

• Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract - aka Green Tea Extract.  An antioxidant that calms the skin with it's anti-irritant properties.  Said to improve the overall appearance of sun-damaged skin.
• Tocopheryl Acetate - This antioxidant is a form of Vitamin E with skin conditioning benefits.
• Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate - Derived from licorice, this anti-inflammatory that is said to aid in evening out skin tone.
• Allantoin - Conditions and soothes the skin.  
• Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract - Derived from the aloe vera plant, this antioxidant helps soothe the skin. 

There are other interesting ingredients in this formulation such as Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxide which can be beneficial when used in sunscreen, however for this application I do not see the benefit outside of being a thickening agent.

• Butylene Glycol - 1 out of 5 (Acne)

This seems to be a reoccuring ingredient in certain nose strips.  Butylene Glycol does help boost skin penetration for the ingredients in the formulation, but another side effect is that it can also cause break outs.  In addition to this, the LUKE Charcoal Nose Cleansing Strip contains fragrance which may be irritating to some.

Fail.

The instructions for the LUKE Charcoal Nose Cleansing Strip is a little unique, because instead of applying the strip to a damp nose, you're supposed to spray the strip two to three times before peeling it off the sheet and applying.  You have to be careful here, because if you spray too much it will just stick to the plastic. 

I sprayed the product three times and placed it on my clean nose.  I immediately noticed how sticky this strip was compared to others.  As a matter of fact, gummy charcoal seeped through the strip and got all over my fingers.  I waited 20 minutes for the strip to dry before peeling it off.  It seemed to hurt a lot less than other strips; probably due to the skin soothing ingredients such as Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract.  Sadly, the nose strip did absolutely nothing.  It didn't even take one bit of sebum despite my nose being full of them today.  

FINAL THOUGHTS

I will most certainly not purchase LUKE Charcoal Nose Cleansing Strips and I'm glad I received it as a free sample through Jolse.  I'm always thankful that Jolse includes interesting samples with every order, but this one was a flop for me.  I'm tempted to use a Pacifica Cosmic Vanish Pore Strip (full review here) after using this one, but it would be stressful on the skin to use two strips in one day; so I'll just have to wait.

It has been several months since my last Brazilian Blowout.  It's supposed to be nice spring weather were I live, but summer decided to come early.  It has been hot, humid, rainy, and miserable.  My hair seems to agree - so I decided to give another Home DIY Keratin Treatment a try.

Woof.  I can tell right off the bat that safety precautions are required when working with this product, but it does contain the two main factors for an effective DIY keratin treatment:  A fusing agent and keratin:  

• Formaldehyde - Helps create a cross link between the keratin which naturally occurs in your hair and the new keratin from the treatment.  This fusing agent essentially helps the keratin bind to your hair.  IT WILL CREATE FUMES.
• Hydrolyzed Keratin - Often derived from sheep's wool, these protein molecules penetrate the hair shaft to help enhance the interior cortex and thus changing the hair's shape.  

In addition to the essentials, I've found the formula also contains other goodies that my hair might like:

• Cetrimonium Bromide - A smoothing agent that helps reduce frizz and increase shine.
• Sunflower Seed Oil - This oil helps boost hair hydration while also reducing frizz.
• Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl (protein) - aka Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein. Improves hair texture and manageability. 
• Petrolatum - aka Petroleum Jelly. Helps seal the hair shaft and protect it from breakage.
• Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil - Helps reduce hair protein loss.
• Argania Spinosa (Moroccan Argan oil) - Reduces frizz and helps the hair retain moisture.
• Wheat Germ - Oil rich in fatty acids that increases hair moisture and softness.
• Linolenic & Linoleic Acid - Reduces water loss and stimulates hair growth.
• Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Seed Oil) - This ingredient is rich in vitamins and minerals which helps strengthen the hair.  
• Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans - Increases hair moisture retention.

It's important to note that due to the nature of these ingredients (formaldehyde, sulfur, proteins) this treatment should be done sparingly.  In fact, if keratin treatments in general are performed too often, the hair can be overloaded with protein and actually cause breakage.  This is why I only do keratin treatments approximately once per year, because I want to be sure the treatment is completely worn off before get it done again.  

It has a creamy, conditioner-like formula.

In summary, significant safety precautions will be required when using Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil.  The ingredients contain the essential building blocks for an effective DIY keratin treatment, on top of many other ingredients that help moisturize, smooth, and protect the hair.

PREPARATION

Materials by order of use:  

• Clarifying Shampoo - Came with the treatment set I purchased.
• Old T-Shirt to wear.
• Turbie Twist
• T3 Cura Luxe Hair Dryer
• Detangling Comb
• Paddle Brush
• Starter Tool Kit - Comes with Professional Hairdresser Cape, Claw Hair Clips, and applicator brush.
• KN-95 Mask
• Electric Fan
• Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil
• Fine-Toothed Comb
• BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Digital Straightening Flat Iron

THE PROCESS

For reference, I have virgin 2c / 3a curly hair that is 21 inches (53 cm) from root to tip.  My last Brazilian Blowout was approximately nine months ago.  Note I do use oVertone on a few grey strands in my bangs, but have not dyed the rest of my head.  

Since my hair is long, I actually bought the 120 ml bottle (that came with the clarifying shampoo) AND a 300 ml bottle.  I wasn't sure how much I would need, because when I did the INVERTO ONE treatment I used two 160 ml bottles.  Better to have some left over for the future than running out mid-treatment!

After reading through the instructions, I realized that this treatment is old-school.  The older keratin treatments worked great, but there was no rinsing involved at the end.  Hair had to be kept dry and unbound for 72-hours.  That means no tying the hair back, as it could develop a kink as the treatment set.  Wet hair / kinks needed to be ironed out immediately.  

This treatment is old school a la 2008 - but should still be effective!

STEP 1:  Clarify & Dry
Before hopping in the shower, I brushed out my hair to detangle it before washing.   I found that this helps prevent knots when I wash my hair with the clarifying shampoo (it smells like apples!).  I gently massage the clarifying shampoo into my hair to try to avoid making more knots until it is thoroughly cleaned.  The instructions say to shampoo twice, so I did.  Since it is difficult to detangle the hair without conditioner, slowly and gently detangled it under running water until no more tangles are present.  This will make the next few steps a lot easier.  

After washing, I wrapped my hair in a turbie twist for about 10 minutes remove the excess water.  Using a detangling comb, I blow dried my hair using a T3 Cura Luxe Hair Dryer with medium heat until it was 100% dry and free of tangles.  I did not do this last them when using the INVERTO ONE treatment, and it was a mistake because having detangled hair really helps with even distribution of product.  Since the Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil contains formaldehyde, I don't want to use more product than needed (too much product = excess fumes).

Step 1:  Wash with a Clarifying Shampoo and Blow Dry

STEP 2:  Application 

Safety Precautions Activate!:  KN-95 Mask ON!  Gloves ON!  Cape ON!  I set up a floor mirror in my living room with the sliding glass door all the way open.  I also turned on the ceiling fan to full speed, air conditioner constantly running, and set up a floor fan blowing from behind me aiming outside.  My stylist would sometimes put some cheap plastic glasses on during this step for Brazilian Blowouts, but I don't own any.  Also wanted to note that her salon didn't have open windows, but she did have a very large air purifier and fan. 

Safety is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.  It's going to smell bad - like car exhaust.  Without proper ventilation and masking, eyes and throat will burn.  It will not be a fun time.  I did try using a cloth mask for this step, but the KN-95 provided significantly more protection. 

I poured the Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil in a silicone bowl and parted my hair.  Using the same technique as before, I took half-inch sections and applied the product with the applicator brush; coming within 1cm of the scalp without touching it.  I then ran the section between my fingers to squeeze out excess product; followed by a fine-toothed comb.  I would wipe off the comb between each pass, until the excess was greatly reduced (this wouldn't have been possible if I didn't detangle in the last step).  I did this because once again, excess product = excess fumes. 

I was sure to be gentle when combing my hair to avoid breakage.  When did unloop the mask around one ear at a time to make sure I got those hairs too, but with the mask still on.  After repeating this process to my entire head, I let it sit (uncovered) for 30 minutes.  I ended up using half of the 300 ml bottle.  So I still have that plus the other 120 ml bottle I also purchased.  

Step 2:  Apply evenly until hair is saturated without excess!

STEP 3:  Blow Dry Again
Safety Precautions:  Still Active.  After 30 minutes, parted my hair into six sections and blow dried it on medium-low heat until 100% dry.  I also made sure that my hair was completely detangled using the detangling comb, and then went over it again with a paddle brush.  

Step 3:  After 30 minutes, blow dry the hair again.

STEP 4:  Flat Iron

Safety Precautions:  Still Active.  After it was completely dried, I parted my hair again and set my BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Digital Straightening Flat Iron to 430 degrees (Fahrenheit).  I used this temperature because when I get Brazilian Blowouts my stylist sets her flat iron to 425 - 429 degrees when working on my hair.  I did experiment on using a lower temperature of 410, but the results felt more greasy and appeared less shiny.  I guess it takes some sampling to get the right temperature, but it should absolutely not exceed 450 degrees.  

The instructions say to iron the hair from root to tip using 7 - 12 passes depending on the hair type.  Nine passes seemed to work well for me, as it resulted in soft and very shiny hair.  I performed this step slowly and with a lot of care, because I want to be sure that the Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil fuses correctly with my hair.  

Because I put a lot of effort to ensure that this treatment was applied in a safe environment; my eyes, nose, and throat felt fine.

AFTERCARE

As stated before, this is an old-school keratin treatment; meaning no getting the hair wet or tying it back for 72-hours.  During this time, I would loop my hair around my head and wear a tightly sealed shower cap when showering.  I would go to bed with my hair loose and inspect it for kinks in the morning.  Luckily no kinks developed so I didn't need to iron them out.

After the 72 hour period ended, I am now able to wash my hair.  They say sulfate free shampoos help keep the treatment lasting longer, but that really isn't enough.  Shampoos are typically advertised as "sulfate free" but that just means that they might have swapped Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) for another harsh surfactant.  

I generally avoid the following ingredients:  Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Ether Sulfate.  Basically, anything that even remotely sounds like Sulfate, Sulfonate, most Sodiums, etc.

The shampoo I use is SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo.  It contains Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate which is a natural sodium salt derived from lactic acid.  It is so very gentle on the hair that it won't strip the treatment from the hair shaft.  I also use lukewarm water on my hair for shampooing - never hot.  

For conditioner, I like to use Ryo Jinsaengbo Super Revital Total Care Conditioner.  It contains ginseng and has a nice herbal scent.  I use it because it's extremely gentle and helps detangle my hair better than any other western conditioner I have tried.  Daeng Gi Meo Ri also makes excellent conditioners.  These Korean brands do use SLS in most of their shampoos though; that's why I only use their conditioners.  I rinse the conditioner thoroughly from my hair with cold water.   

Finally, another very important product to ensure the longevity of my keratin treatments is the Brazilian Blowout Ionic Bonding spray.  It extends the life of the treatment and keeps the hair smooth.  I apply it to damp hair after I get out of the shower.  Honestly, with or without a keratin treatment in my hair - I will never be without this product.  I've tried other keratin sprays from ULTA, but nothing comes close to the Ionic Bonding spray.  

FINAL THOUGHTS

First and foremost, I just wanted to say while the Keratin Research INVERTO ONE treatment was good, the Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil is GREAT.  INVERTO ONE had strange quirks like my hair smelling funky when wet, difficult to detangle, and instructions saying not to allow hair to air dry.  It lasted just under two months because it was "formaldehyde free".  

I feel that the Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil is a far superior formula, and can be safe to use with proper preparation and application.  I'll update this article after a few months regarding it's longevity.  

If I had to compare this treatment to the salon brands, I would put it up there with Peter Coppola (a $250 treatment at the salon), but I don't think it is as good as Brazilian Blowout (a $350 treatment).  The reason for this is my hair wasn't as "frizz free" when I let it air dry compared to Brazilian Blowout.  If I leave it curly, I have to use a light weight leave in conditioner (milk_shake Moisture Plus Whipped Cream is perfect for this).  If I straighten it, the results are wonderful.

I'm going to compile my photos of other treatments and write another article comparing Keratin Research INVERTO ONE, Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil, Coppola, and Brazilian Blowout in order to share the before and afters side by side.

UPDATE:  I have used  Keratin Research Original Keratin Hair Treatment with Argan Oil for a second time and this is what I learned:  It is very important not to use too much product during application on Step 2.  When combing the hair with a fine toothed comb, there should be little to no product pushing in front of the comb.  Wipe the comb with each pass until that happens.

If there is too much product during the application, then there will be much more smoke during the second blowdry in Step 3, and will also require more passes during flat ironing as well.  Too much product will result in hair feeling oily after the treatment.  The greasy feeling may go away after a day or two, but if applied correctly the hair should not feel greasy!

It's that time of year again were I make random purchases at ULTA so that I can continue my Platinum Status through the next year.  I love trying new hair masks, especially when I'm in between Brazilian Blowouts; so I thought I would give Wella a whirl!

My Brazilian Blowout has finally faded, and during this time I usually enjoy trying new deep conditioning / repair masks to help tame my curls.  The last one I used was the Ryo Damage Care Treatment; which was amazing and left my hair silky smooth (review here).  

The Wella FUSIONPLEX Intense Repair Mask is at a considerably different price point; so I was curious as to how it would compare.  However, let's remember folks, price does not always equal quality.  So with that in mind, Wella claims that their Intense Repair Mask helps repair and protect damaged hair with the help of silk amino acids.  Let's see if they can back up that claim!

The Wella Hair Mask had a very thick and non-runny consistency.

Opening the tub, I was met with a lovely fresh and floral scent that wasn't overpowering.  The consistency of Wella FUSIONPLEX Intense Repair Mask is quite viscous so there should be no issues with the treatment dripping off of my head.  Like the Ryo Damage Care Treatment, the texture is similar to that of a whipped petroleum jelly.  Luckily for me, the ingredients list is fairly short meaning I wont have to spend so much time researching them for this review lol.  

INGREDIENTS

Water/Eau, Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Stearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Fragrance/Parfum, Isopropyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium Edta, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Limonene, Histidine, Glycine, Citric Acid, Alanine, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Silk Amino Acids.

Notable Ingredients:

• Behentrimonium Chloride - Derived from canola oil, this softening agent helps condition the hair.
• Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone - A type of silicone that binds to the hair shaft and can have a smoothing effect.  It is not water soluble, but can be washed out with mild cleansers; thus avoiding build-up.  
• Histidine - A type of amino acid that is said to help improve hair strength. 
• Glycine - Some studies show that when this amino acid is applied to the hair, it can result in an increase in tensile hair strength and thus reducing breakage. 
• Alanine - Another amino acid that also increases hair strength in addition to improved hydrophobicity.  An increased hydrophobic layer of the hair cortex can physically manifest as improved shine and body.  
• Silk Amino Acids- These amino acids are hydrolyzed from silk fibers, and are said to be able to deeply penetrate the hair shaft and provide increased moisture. 

Okay... so I'm a bit perplexed at this formulation because many of the ingredients are fragrance additives.  We have Fragrance/Parfum (obviously), Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Limonene, and Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone.  Then we have the alcohols, silicones, and preservatives leaving only a few ingredients that actually do anything to improve the condition of the hair.  Hopefully the strength of these notable ingredients are sufficient to provide positive results in a mask application.

I'm also concerned because my hair can be somewhat finicky when it comes to certain silicones; so I am not sure how it will react to Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone.  Fingers crossed that it doesn't dry out my hair!

The Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Eye Gels have a gel side and a fabric side.

The Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels are slightly different from other eye masks that I have tried.  They weren't soaked with serum and actually had a fabric-feeling exterior.  The instructions are simple:  Peel away the backing and place the shiny side down against to under-eye area; leave on for ten minutes then remove.  

INGREDIENTS

Since the serum within the Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels didn't feel watery, I wondered what ingredients lied within.  Let's take a look.  

Water/Aqua/ Eau, Polyacrylic Acid, Glycerin, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Angelica Archangelica Root Water*, Sodium Hydroxide, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Hydrolyzed Extensin, Agar, Caprylyl Glycol, Perfluorodecalin, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Xanthan Gum, Ubiquinone,Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Extract, Buddleja Davidii Extract, Rubus Chamaemorus (Arctic Cloudberry) Seed Oil, Oxycoccus Palustris (Arctic Cranberry) Seed Oil, Aluminum Glycinate, Polysorbate 60, Ceramide NP, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sucrose Palmitate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.


Notable Ingredients:

• Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil - This antioxidant is rich with fatty acids and is said to have be beneficial for those with dry skin.
• Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract - A powerful antioxidant that helps the skin retain moisture while also promoting collagen production; so it is often used in anti-aging formulations. 
• Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 - aka Argireline.  A synthetic peptide that helps temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
• Perfluorodecalin - This fascinating fluorocarbon helps dissolve oxygen so that it may be delivered to the skin on a cellular level. 
• Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil - A non-comedogenic plant oil with skin-soothing properties.
• Ubiquinone - aka Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10.  Studies show that this ingredient improves skin smoothness and reduces wrinkles when consumed.  Topically, the coenzyme can have antioxidant properties by protecting the skin from free radicals.
• Buddleja Davidii Extract - A plant-based antioxidant with skin soothing properties.
• Rubus Chamaemorus (Arctic Cloudberry) Seed Oil - aka Cloudberry Seed Oil.  A skin-conditioning agent that is high in Vitamin C
• Oxycoccus Palustris (Arctic Cranberry) Seed Oil - A powerful antioxidant that helps mitigate UV damage to the skin, in addition to containing fatty acids which nourishes the skin. 
• Ceramide NP - This ingredient reinforces skin's natural lipid barrier thus helping ward off irritants and preventing dryness.  
• Sucrose Palmitate - A sugar ester with hydrating properties.

The Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels contain a lot of very fascinating ingredients that are highly beneficial for the skin.  I haven't come across Cloudberry or Cranberry Seed Oils in my reviews so I'm interested as to how my skin will react to it.  

COSDNA ALERTS

COSDNA only flagged two out of the 26 ingredients.  Surprisingly it wasn't the usual culprits such as Butylene Glycol, but something a little different...

• Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil - 2 out of 5 (Acne),
• Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil - 2 out of 5 (Acne), Up to 2 out of 5 (Irritant)

My acne-prone skin typically does not like oils, and Olive Fruit Oil is pretty high up on the list.  Fingers crossed that there are no adverse affects!

BEFORE AND AFTER

The results were noticeable after only 10 minutes of wear.

I wore the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels for about 10 minutes per the instructions.  They were noticeably cool and soothing as soon as I put them on.  One thing that I particularly liked about these gels is that they really stayed put.  As much as I enjoy the Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Hydrogel Eye Patches, they do tend to slide down a little bit.  Not these however.  I could even look down and focus on writing in my notebook without them even budging.  

After I removed the eye gels, my under eye didn't really feel moisturized; but they did make my skin extremely soft.  In the above photo, you can see some improvement with the orange peel texture and added smoothness to my fine lines.  My under eyes are also not very puffy, but it did subdue whatever little puff I did have.  However, the most surprising thing for me about these eye gels was the fact that this softness was noticeable for days.  I mean DAYS.  I have never encountered the same effect with other eye gels.  

FINAL THOUGHTS

I was really happy with my experience using Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels.  While they are significantly more expensive than the Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Hydrogel Eye Patches, I do believe they are worth it.  Plus Skyn Iceland often has sales (and 15% off your first order) so I don't think I will ever need to pay full price.

Next time I see the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels on sale, I will definitely pick up a few pairs.  I believe that with continued use the results will be even more compelling.
